420J1 Stainless Steel is a martensitic stainless steel grade with a carbon content ranging from approximately 0.16% to 0.25%. It offers a balanced combination of wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and hardness, while remaining more cost-effective than 420J2 stainless steel.

This grade is suitable for applications requiring standard stainless steel performance and is particularly well suited for environments where both wear resistance and corrosion resistance are important. Due to its good mechanical properties and economical cost, 420J1 stainless steel is widely used in the manufacture of knives, spoons, forks, pliers, scissors, and other household or industrial tools.

Key Characteristics:

Good Hardness

420J1 can be heat-treated to achieve a relatively high hardness level, providing improved durability and service life.

Wear Resistance

Its martensitic structure offers good resistance to wear, making it suitable for cutting tools and frequently used utensils.

Corrosion Resistance

The chromium content provides good corrosion resistance in normal atmospheric conditions and mild corrosive environments.

Cost-Effective Solution

Compared with 420J2 and higher-alloy stainless steels, 420J1 offers a more economical solution while maintaining adequate performance for many applications.

Heat Treatability

420J1 can be hardened and tempered through heat treatment to achieve the desired balance of hardness and toughness.
